The Cordy Museum of Afrofuturism (CMA) is dedicated to creating a world-class museum and educational center where imagination, history, science, art, and culture intersect to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of Black creators and the global movement of Afrofuturism.

For more than 50 years of collecting, 40 years of creating artwork, and decades of teaching students in community centers, public schools, colleges, and universities, our founder has worked to preserve the stories, artwork, artifacts, and creative achievements that too often remain overlooked. Today, that lifelong commitment is evolving into a permanent home where people of every background can gather to discover, learn, create, and be inspired.

The Cordy Museum of Afrofuturism will be more than a museum—it will be a living center for education, preservation, innovation, and imagination.

Our mission is to preserve, safeguard, interpret, and celebrate the creative legacy of Black speculative fiction and Afrofuturism through exhibitions, education, research, and public engagement. We are committed to showcasing comics, comic strips, original illustration, fine art, animation, anime, children’s literature, toys, gaming, design, film, music, science, technology, and emerging media that reflect the limitless imagination of the African diaspora.

At the same time, we recognize and honor the many creators from every cultural background whose work has advanced authentic Black representation and expanded the global vision of Afrofuturism. We believe that creativity knows no borders and that cultural appreciation, collaboration, and shared imagination strengthen all communities.

As a Georgia nonprofit public benefit corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, CMA exists to preserve cultural history while inspiring future generations of artists, writers, scientists, engineers, educators, innovators, and dreamers.

We envision a future where every visitor—regardless of age, race, or background—can explore the rich history of Black imagination, discover untold stories, and experience the power of Afrofuturism as a force for education, innovation, and social connection.

Through immersive exhibitions, educational programming, public lectures, workshops, community partnerships, and interactive learning spaces, CMA will become a destination where history meets the future and creativity becomes a bridge between cultures.

Our goal is to establish one of the premier museums dedicated to Afrofuturism and Black popular culture while serving as a permanent archive that preserves these important cultural contributions for generations to come.

Afrofuturism is more than an artistic movement—it is a way of envisioning a future where science, technology, culture, history, and creativity come together to imagine new possibilities. By preserving these stories and creative works, we help ensure that future generations understand the profound influence Black artists, writers, filmmakers, designers, musicians, inventors, educators, and visionaries have had on global culture.

The journey to create the Cordy Museum of Afrofuturism began decades ago with a simple belief: the creative achievements of Black artists and visionaries deserve to be preserved, celebrated, and shared with the world.

Over the course of five decades, our founder Professor Willie Cordy Jr has assembled an extensive collection of original artwork, comics, books, collectibles, toys, historical artifacts, educational resources, and cultural materials documenting the growth and evolution of Afrofuturism and Black representation throughout popular culture.

For more than forty years, Professor Cordy has also dedicated himself to educating students and communities through art instruction, public presentations, exhibitions, workshops, and outreach programs. These experiences have demonstrated the tremendous impact that representation and creative education have on inspiring young people to become artists, storytellers, innovators, scientists, and leaders.

Now, we are ready to take the next step.

Our vision is to build professionally designed museum exhibitions that will introduce visitors to the history, creativity, innovation, and cultural significance of Afrofuturism. These exhibits will preserve important collections while creating unforgettable educational experiences for families, students, educators, researchers, collectors, artists, and museum visitors from around the world.

Building a museum of this quality requires significant resources. Every exhibit, display case, educational installation, interactive experience, archival system, and preservation effort depends upon community support.
